Jonathan Ryan Storm

Biography

Jonathan Ryan Storm (b. 1980, Phoenix, AZ) lives and works in Brattleboro, Vermont. He is a graduate in Metaphysics from Wheaton College (BA, 2003). Recent exhibitions have included Proper Headshrinker at David Shelton Gallery; Houston, TX and Communerism at Jaume Gallery; Greenfield, MA.

Storm's work is about finding balance while solving a puzzle. As in the opening chess move, traps are laid where colors conflict with one another, where circles mirror each other and, in order to advance, some are sacrificed. Rather than the traditional plain canvas or linen, often Storm will use sourced patterned fabrics as the ground for his paintings. During the stretching process these textiles are irregularly warped and pulled, creating a captivating sense of unease or imbalance that he can then respond to through additional painted applications.
