Natan Moss
Biography
Natan has been working in clay most of his life, learning from his uncle David Cuzick, a successful California studio potter. He holds an MFA in New Media Sculpture from Pratt Institute where he worked as the teaching assistant to acclaimed sculptor Lucian Pompili. Natan's philosophy is to make simple, elegant pieces which explore the duality between art and functionality.
Though Natan finds inspiration from many places, Japan, Scandinavia and 1960s Italy have been particularly influential. He has a duo of creative outlets; Natan Moss Ceramics focuses mainly on decorative vessels and high end art furniture while Natan Moss Home offers a line of functional work mainly tableware and candles.
What continues to propel Natan's ceramic work is the lack of control that is inherent to the medium. It forces him to let go of his perfectionist tendencies and allows for moments of surprise and beauty in the uncertainty. He currently lives and works in Santa Fe, NM.
