Haas is known for her colored pencil works on paper, and we worked carefully to carry that hand-drawn surface into screenprint. What remains is the tension that defines her practice: stacked forms with real weight, animated by patterns that keep pulling your eye back to the surface.

One from a pair of silkscreen prints created in collaboration with artist Karin Haas. Delicate fluidly drawn patterns generate a lovely contrast as they move across blocky, geometric forms in Haas’ stacked compositions. Renowned for her colored pencil works on paper we went to great lengths with these prints to emulate her hand-drawn surface texture through the printing process.
There is a captivating tension Haas creates between offering a sense of depth and weight to her drawn shapes while at the same time pulling our focus back to their surface through a fluid use of pattern and visible, meditative mark-making. The drawings behave almost like sculptural propositions, offering a consideration of the potential weight and balance of these forms and how they might physically stack atop one another.

Our typical framing practice is to float mount prints with 1-inch (2cm) of space around the print. This is a method of framing that keeps the art fully visible in the frame and leaves the edges of the cotton papers exposed. A spacer is added to the frame to keep the artwork from touching the plexiglass. Float mounting requires adhering the print to an acid free foam core back or mat board using acid free linen tape.
UV-filtering plexiglass is used for all frames, an option that has become the industry standard. Plexiglass is lighter, scratch-resistant & shatter-resistant (essential for shipping). It also provides more UV protection and less glare than glass.
