This is our second collaborative edition with Alyson Fox and the scale of the work has expanded in this series of six large-scale Shapes silkscreen prints.

Known for deftly moving between fine art, textile, graphic and product design, we have created a grouping of Shapes screenprints based on Alyson's designs. Alyson treats the daily generation of these shapes as one would a journal. Peppered with her very particular experiences of shape, surface and the fascinating interactions between objects and images, Fox’s Shapes reflect how she moves through the world; seeing and absorbing the ways in which edges touch, forms overlap, shadows are case or objects obscured. Produced in an unexpected and beautifully sophisticated palette, these prints look as good in a grouping as they do on their own.

Our typical framing practice is to float mount prints with 1-inch (2cm) of space around the print. This is a method of framing that keeps the art fully visible in the frame and leaves the edges of the cotton papers exposed. A spacer is added to the frame to keep the artwork from touching the plexiglass. Float mounting requires adhering the print to an acid free foam core back or mat board using acid free linen tape.

UV-filtering plexiglass is used for all frames, an option that has become the industry standard. Plexiglass is lighter, scratch-resistant & shatter-resistant (essential for shipping). It also provides more UV protection and less glare than glass.

Alyson Fox

Alyson Fox (b. 1979 El Paso, TX) is an artist and designer working across many mediums. She received a MFA from the University of Colorado where she focused on sculpture, and a BFA in Photography from Florida state University.

Fox is consistently driven by curiosity. Untethered by medium and pledging no fine art or design world allegiances, she is a true descendent of the Bauhaus ethos of the multi-faceted maker. Shortly after graduating she brought her training in photography and drawing along with her unique material sensibilities to surface design projects. It makes sense that her independent studio output in the subsequent years has all involved an engagement with and experience of spaces for living. Peppered with her very particular experiences of shape, surface and the fascinating interactions between objects and images, Fox’s work reflects how she moves through the world; seeing and absorbing the ways in which edges touch, forms overlap, shadows are case or objects obscured. The creative outcomes of these observed moments can take as diverse forms as fine art photography, weavings, blown glass, editioned silkscreen prints, tufted carpets, wallpaper patterns and even a series of unconventional ikebana-inspired flower arrangements.

The best way to love your prints and ensure a long, happy life is certainly to have them framed. A high quality frame can prevent damage, fading and also show your prints off in their best possible light. If you are interested in having your print framed through our site, take a look at our framing information page.

We’ve found that the best way to avoid damage, is to ship prints carefully packaged in sturdy tubes. A day or two under some heavy books and they'll be nice and flat. However, keep in mind that because of the nature of cotton paper, it will respond to differing levels of humidity in the air. Sometimes paper will lay flat and other times it will slightly ripple. This is natural and a lovely reminder of its physicality as an organic object, embrace its paper personality! If you’re planning to frame your print, just take them rolled up to your framer and they can expertly take care of the flattening process.

We love to work with design professionals and are pleased to now offer free membership to our trade program that includes a 15% discount on all of our works. Head to our Trade page to share your details and request trade access.

If your prints have arrived damaged in any way we will send a replacement free of any charge and pay for your damaged prints to be posted back to us.
